Education Series- Pressure Care Day
On Thursday 26th February 2009 Independent Living Specialists hosted its inaugural Education Series session at our Lane Cove showroom. The aim of this series is to aid clinicians in their prescription of rehabilitation equipment. The first series focussed on Pressure Care products.
65 Occupational Therapists from across Sydney attended sessions run by Seating Dynamics, Otto Bock, Invacare, Sunrise Medical and Novis Healthcare. The day ran smoothly with OT’s split in to 5 small work groups rotating to meet with the different presenters and ask them the difficult questions.
Overall the feedback on the day was positive and Independent Living Specialists look forward to hosting further education sessions in the near future.
Independent Living Specialists sponsored the 20/Twenty Challenge on Sunday 22nd February 2009, Which is supported by Macquarie Group Foundation, to raise funds for children with cerebral palsy. The event involves a 2km swim at Shelly Beach, Manly, a 500m kayak at Clontarf and a 20km walk along the coastline to Clifton Gardens, Mosman.
Sponsorship will help The Spastic Centre purchase essential communication and mobility equipment for children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. This equipment helps the children move easily and communicate better with others.
Dragon Abreast Australia
More than 50 teams battled it out at the Dragon Abreast Australia inaugural Dragon Boat Regatta on Cockle Bay. Dragons Abreast Australia has been promoting breast cancer awareness and education through the sport of dragon boat racing in Australia for 10 years. On October 19th 2008, Team ILS took to the water, to share in what was an amazing day. After 3 hears Team ILS placed 7th overall and managed to raised $3600 in total from donations and selling M&M’s
